Ah, shrooms. The magical fungi that can make you feel like you’re tripping through a rainbow of colors and hallucinating talking animals, OR help you treat a range of serious ailments including depression, anxiety, bi polar disorder, and epilepsy to name a few.
But where can you legally get your hands on shrooms in Canada and the US? Here’s a quick cheat sheet of where you can enjoy shrooms legally, or semi legally:)
Let’s start on our home turf. Canada is pretty chill when it comes to shrooms, and they’ve been decriminalized in several cities, including:
Vancouver: Known for its stunning natural beauty, Vancouver is also a great place to get your shroom on. In 2020, the city council voted to decriminalize possession of all drugs, including psilocybin (the active ingredient in shrooms).
Toronto: Canada’s largest city is also a hub for shroom enthusiasts. In 2019, the city council voted in favor of a motion to support the decriminalization of psilocybin.
Montreal: Known for its vibrant arts and music scene, Montreal is also home to a growing shroom culture. In 2021, the city council voted to support the decriminalization of all drugs, including psilocybin.
In November 2020, Health Canada granted exemptions to four terminally ill patients to use psilocybin therapy. So, while shrooms aren’t exactly legal in Canada, they’re definitely on the path to greater acceptance.
Shrooms in the US
Oregon: In November 2020, Oregon became the first state in the US to legalize psilocybin therapy. The state’s new law allows for the use of psilocybin under the supervision of a licensed facilitator.
Washington, D.C.: In 2020, voters in the nation’s capital approved a ballot initiative to decriminalize psilocybin and other entheogenic plants and fungi, including ayahuasca and peyote.
Denver, Colorado: In 2019, Denver became the first city in the US to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms. The city’s initiative made possession of psilocybin mushrooms by adults 21 and older the lowest law enforcement priority.
Oakland and Santa Cruz, California: In 2019, both Oakland and Santa Cruz passed measures to decriminalize all entheogenic plants and fungi, including shrooms.
Want to try Shrooms?
We suggest trying our bulk, dry, mix and match mushrooms to find the strain that works best for you.
A good rule of thumb is to try microdosing to start and see how it affects you before you get into any kind of “hero’s dose”. All our shrooms are naturally and small batch grown and of the highest quality.
We also carry a wide range of microdose shrooms-with-chocolate products that we make in house. Check out our article on why it’s best to microdose with chocolate!
